For home safety under the Childminding Pilot, ECDA says operators must ensure a clean, safe environment that suits infants and minimises hazards and risks.
ECDA also says childminders must declare people who will be at home during care hours. Background checks extend to people with regular access to the home, such as family members.
Ask the appointed operator how the proposed home arrangement meets these expectations. The published safeguards do not establish the suitability of a particular home or replace checking the actual arrangement for your infant.
In this guide
CHAPTER 1 OF 3
Ask about the care environment
Use ECDA’s home-safety FAQ as your starting point. Ask the operator how it checks and supports the setting offered to your family.
Discuss where care takes place and how handovers work. Request an explanation of the arrangements relevant to your infant rather than relying only on an attractive photograph.
CHAPTER 2 OF 3
Clarify who is present
ECDA’s household-members FAQ explains declarations and background checks. Ask the operator how changes to the people regularly present are handled.
This does not mean parents should demand another person’s private background records. Ask about the operator’s process and the information it can appropriately confirm.
CHAPTER 3 OF 3
Agree on communication and changes
Ask whom to contact if you have a concern about the setting and how the operator will tell you about a change affecting your booking.
Keep your enquiry specific and follow up on unresolved points before committing. This guide does not provide an exhaustive safety inspection checklist or guarantee that risks are eliminated.
Information checked on 18 October 2026. Confirm current pilot requirements, availability and the details of your arrangement with the appointed operator.
