If your child becomes unwell at a Punggol preschool, ECDA says the centre will notify you and may place your child in the sick bay while waiting for collection.
The sick-bay arrangement described by ECDA is temporary while you fetch your child. It should not be confused with a medical diagnosis or an arrangement for continuing the normal preschool day.
Ask what symptoms staff observed, who is with your child and where to collect them. Obtain medical help appropriate to the situation; urgent care should not wait for an ordinary collection discussion.
CHAPTER 1 OF 3
Understand the purpose of the sick bay
Read ECDA’s FAQ on isolating an unwell child. Its answer covers notification and waiting for a parent to collect the child.
It does not specify a universal collection deadline, room layout or staffing arrangement. Ask your own centre to explain its procedure rather than assuming those details.
CHAPTER 2 OF 3
Make the collection conversation clear
Confirm who will collect the child, the expected arrival time and the centre’s authorisation process if someone else is collecting. Ask for clarification if you cannot meet the proposed arrangement.
Request a handover of what staff observed and any action taken. Pass relevant information to the clinician if medical assessment is needed.
CHAPTER 3 OF 3
Prepare contacts before an interruption
Check that the centre has current contact details and that any backup collector understands your family’s arrangements. Ask how the centre contacts you if its first call is unanswered.
Before your child returns, clarify the applicable recovery and attendance requirements. See the return-to-preschool documentation guide.
Information checked on 17 October 2026. Follow current official guidance and obtain professional advice appropriate to your child’s circumstances.
