A Punggol preschool may turn away a child who is unwell even when symptoms seem mild. ECDA advises children who are unwell or show infectious-disease symptoms to seek medical attention and recover at home.
ECDA explains that preschool children spend the day close together. Its guidance says return should be after the period stated on the medical certificate and when illness symptoms have resolved.
If you are uncertain about a symptom, explain the situation to the centre and obtain appropriate medical advice. This article does not diagnose the cause or decide whether your child is fit to attend.
CHAPTER 1 OF 3
Understand the guidance behind the decision
The ECDA mild-symptoms FAQ focuses on recovery and reducing spread, not simply whether a child can manage classroom activities.
Ask staff which observation prompted the concern and what clarification is needed. An accurate description is more helpful than debating whether a symptom is “only mild”.
CHAPTER 2 OF 3
Clarify medical questions separately
Tell the healthcare professional what you have noticed and what the centre has reported. If symptoms have an established explanation, ask how that should be communicated to the preschool.
Do not change prescribed treatment or ask staff to overlook symptoms based on this guide. Where advice seems inconsistent, clarify the point with the relevant professional and centre.
CHAPTER 3 OF 3
Plan a clear return
Confirm the intended return date, outstanding symptoms and any applicable instructions before the next drop-off. Keep a backup collection and care arrangement in mind when illness interrupts the day.
A separate issue is whether another document is needed after recovery. See doctor’s letters for returning to preschool.
