Unexplained Bruises After Preschool: A Punggol Parent Communication Guide

Primary 3 students learning English in a small-group eduKate classroom in Singapore

If you notice unexplained bruises after preschool in Punggol, note the date and time you discovered them and contact your child’s educator or principal. This is the first step described in ECDA’s parent guidance.

Ask about possible causes and what the centre knows, rather than deciding the cause from the appearance of a mark alone. ECDA also suggests discussing steps to reduce recurrence.

This is a communication guide, not a medical assessment or a way to determine whether abuse occurred. Obtain medical advice where needed; an urgent medical or safety concern should not wait for the preschool’s ordinary review process.

CHAPTER 1 OF 3

Record what you actually know

ECDA’s FAQ on bruises not reported by educators specifically advises recording the discovery date and time and reaching out to the educator or principal.

Keep discovery time distinct from injury time if you do not know when the injury happened. Record any explanation you receive without presenting an assumption as an established fact.

CHAPTER 2 OF 3

Ask the centre to clarify the circumstances

Explain where you noticed the mark and what information you are missing. Ask whether staff observed an incident and what records or other information the centre can review.

If your child speaks about what happened, listen calmly and avoid suggesting an answer. This article does not provide investigative interviewing instructions or establish a cause.

CHAPTER 3 OF 3

Agree on follow-up and address unresolved safety concerns

Ask who will respond, what remains uncertain and what preventive action is proposed where appropriate. Keep the centre’s response and the agreed follow-up together.

If concerns remain, raise them explicitly with management and use ECDA’s official contact routes as appropriate. A pending reply should not be treated as a reason to postpone necessary medical care or urgent safeguarding action.
