Punggol Cardboard Recycling: Flatten Delivery Boxes and Separate Packaging

Three students in school uniforms work through open books at a classroom table, with textbooks and stationery nearby and study notes on the whiteboard behind them.

Clean cardboard delivery boxes can go into blue recycling bins in Punggol. Flatten and fold them first: the government’s recycle.gov.sg cardboard guide gives this simple preparation step, and NEA says oversized boxes can be reduced into smaller pieces.

Empty the box before recycling it. A delivery carton may contain foam, plastic, food residue or other inserts that need a separate decision; the cardboard exterior does not make the whole parcel recyclable as one package.

To find a recycling bin near your Punggol block, use recycle.gov.sg and search by postal code. Check the relevant material category and the actual location rather than assuming the nearest specialist collection bin accepts cardboard.

Empty the parcel before flattening

Open the box and remove the contents and loose packing materials. Check that small accessories, instruction sheets or return documents have not been left inside.

If you may need to return a purchase, consider keeping its packaging until that decision is made. This is a practical household choice, not a requirement to keep every delivery carton indefinitely.

Keep cardboard separate from contamination

NEA’s guide distinguishes clean recyclable materials from items that cannot be cleaned. Keep greasy or food-contaminated waste out of the recycling you have prepared.

Do not use an otherwise clean delivery box as a container for wet rubbish and then place everything in the recycling bin. Separating materials at home is easier than trying to sort a mixed bag outdoors.

Flatten the box without filling shared space

Flattening reduces the space an empty carton takes up. For a household receiving several deliveries, prepare a manageable stack before carrying it downstairs.

Avoid leaving a pile beside a full bin or blocking a walkway. Ask your estate manager or town council about the appropriate arrangement if you have more packaging than the available facility can accommodate.

Check each insert on its own merits

Packing foam is not the same material as cardboard. Use NEA’s item guide when uncertain rather than deciding from the recycling symbol or the fact that an item arrived in a parcel.

For a repeatable family routine, set aside one place for clean flattened boxes and another for items still needing a check. Remove delivery labels with personal details where practical before disposing of the packaging.
