What are the screen-use rules for Punggol preschools? ECDA’s Code of Practice requirements state no screen time in the care of and interaction with infants aged two to 18 months.
For children above 18 months to six years, screen time must be limited to teaching and learning that supports programme goals and outcomes. It is not permission to use screens for any purpose.
Centres must not show videos, movies or other digital content simply to occupy children during non-programme hours or transitions. Ask your preschool how any screen activity fits its learning programme.
CHAPTER 1 OF 4
Check the relevant age group
The ECDA screen-use guidance sets out the infant and older-child requirements separately.
Use your child’s programme and age when asking about an activity. Do not apply an explanation for older children to infant care.
CHAPTER 2 OF 4
Ask about the learning purpose
For an older child’s screen activity, ask what it supports, how educators are involved and what children do during it.
ECDA’s guidance calls for interaction, engagement and thinking rather than using screens merely to distract children. A programme label alone does not explain those details.
CHAPTER 3 OF 4
Clarify transition-time arrangements
If you hear that digital content was shown while children were waiting, ask the centre what happened and how it relates to the stated rule.
Keep the question factual, with the date and situation where possible. Ask the principal to clarify an explanation that remains unclear.
CHAPTER 4 OF 4
Keep school rules distinct from home advice
This guide covers ECDA’s preschool requirements, not a personalised home screen-time plan or a medical recommendation.
For a preschool concern, describe the specific use you want explained. Keep the centre’s response so any follow-up addresses the same activity.
Information checked on 14 October 2026. Follow the current official instructions and the guidance given for your child’s situation.
