SIT’s Minor in Artificial Intelligence, or MAI, is an academic pathway announced for AY2026 to help students apply AI within their own disciplines. It is separate from a full AI degree and from the six-month SNAIC AI training programme.
SIT lists 24 credits: 18 unique to MAI and six discipline-specific, with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 for the minor’s modules in addition to degree graduation requirements.
On the official minors page checked on 13 October 2026, Computational Thinking, AI Automation and Industry Team Project are each listed at six credits and marked pending final approval. Confirm the approved curriculum before relying on those names in a study plan.

Apply AI within a discipline
The programme announcement describes translating field-specific challenges into problems that computing can address and developing solutions with measurable impact.
A useful starting question is what problem in your main subject you want to understand better. Learning a tool and explaining whether it improves the task are connected but different pieces of work.
Read the approval note carefully
A published module proposal and a final approved curriculum should not be treated as identical. If your study decisions depend on these modules, obtain the current university instructions.
Ask about prerequisites, assessment and timetable placement together. Avoid building a plan from module names alone, especially when the page explicitly flags an approval condition.
Check your programme and cohort
Use the degree-and-cohort table on the official page to check your route. Broad language about AI across disciplines does not replace programme-specific enrolment instructions.
Bring your current study plan to the academic team and ask how the minor fits it. Confirm whether the relevant discipline module is already part of your degree and what additional work is required.
Keep different AI routes separate
Our SNAIC AI Programme guide covers a separate full-time training route with its own eligibility and intake process. Its fees, stipend and application dates should not be transferred to this minor.
Likewise, our SIT NVIDIA AI centre guide concerns research and industry collaboration. Choose the route that matches your enrolment status, available time and learning goal.
