What should a Punggol preschool programme plan include? ECDA says it must support children’s learning and developmental needs, with objectives or learning goals, an annual events calendar, curriculum plans and daily schedules and routines.
These elements answer different questions: what children are working towards, what events are planned, how learning is organised and how the day runs. A timetable alone is not the whole programme plan.
When discussing a preschool, ask staff to explain how these parts connect for your child’s age group. Look for an understandable account of the programme rather than comparing activity names alone.
In this guide
CHAPTER 1 OF 4
Ask about learning goals
The ECDA programme-plan guidance includes objectives, milestones or learning goals.
Ask what a current activity is intended to support and what teachers look for. This turns an activity label into a useful explanation of the learning purpose.
CHAPTER 2 OF 4
Understand the curriculum plan
Ask how the centre organises learning experiences for your child’s programme. A practical question is: “How does this week’s activity relate to the wider plan?”
Do not assume two centres mean the same thing by a similar activity name. Listen to the explanation of what children do and why.
CHAPTER 3 OF 4
Check the annual calendar
ECDA includes an annual calendar of centre events in the programme plan. Ask where your family can find the calendar and how changes are communicated.
Note events that affect family arrangements, then ask for details when they are announced. A calendar entry is not a substitute for the event’s actual instructions.
CHAPTER 4 OF 4
Read the daily routine in context
Daily schedules and routines are another required part of the plan. Ask how learning activities fit around care, meals and other routines.
Use the explanation alongside your child’s needs and the centre’s communication. If a part remains unclear, ask a specific follow-up rather than judging the entire programme from one timetable.
Information checked on 13 October 2026. Follow the current official instructions and the guidance given for your child’s situation.
