History of Valour Primary School: The Temporary-Campus Plan for Its 2020 Beginning

Valour Primary School’s 2020 beginning was planned around a temporary campus at Punggol Cove Primary. MOE’s holding-site map lists 52 Sumang Walk for the period 2 January to 13 March 2020. This is a distinctive part of Punggol school history: a new institution could begin before its permanent premises were ready.

The permanent Valour Primary and MOE Kindergarten @ Valour campus was identified as 49 Punggol Central. The two locations were about 400 metres apart. The holding site was not a renaming of Punggol Cove Primary or a merger of the two schools.

MOE’s May 2019 announcement, reproduced by KiasuParents, explained construction delays and arrangements for the first Primary One and Kindergarten One cohorts.

CHAPTER 1 OF 3

1. Why a holding site was needed

Back to contents

MOE said this was its first use of Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction, or PPVC, for new schools. Professional advice and design considerations required additional time.

The historical distinction is straightforward: the school community and its eventual permanent building had different starting points. A temporary address need not mean a different school identity.

2. Shared facilities, separate schools

Back to contents

The announcement provided for independent teaching by the schools and kindergartens, with shared facilities including the canteen, library and art or music rooms.

The annex is a historical location record, not a current transport guide. Its holding address should not be used as Valour’s permanent address. This account describes the published arrangements rather than independently verifying each stage of the move.

CHAPTER 3 OF 3

3. A school identity beyond its first address

Back to contents

Valour’s official crest explanation links its upward-reaching red V to courage, confidence and engagement beyond the school. An open book represents knowledge and values; the shield represents resilience.

Our historical reading is that the temporary-campus story makes those ideas especially tangible. An institution is more than its building: it also consists of teachers, pupils and routines that can continue through an interim arrangement.
