Grace Lodge began in 1985 at 105 Punggol Road, established by Singapore Buddhist Welfare Services to care for elderly women in need.
Its official opening was on 16 March 1986, with Ong Teng Cheong, then Second Deputy Prime Minister, officiating.
Grace Lodge’s history belongs to the older Punggol Road corridor, not the modern waterfront town. Its later expansion forms a separate chapter.

A welfare institution on the older road corridor · Opening and formal registration · The 2014 Fu Hui Link chapter
The home’s official account identifies its 1985 establishment by Singapore Buddhist Welfare Services. That gives the local connection a specific institution and address, rather than relying on the word ‘Punggol’ alone.
The road-based connection matters: historical institutions associated with Punggol Road do not all belong inside the modern new town. A useful heritage map should keep the older corridor visible without moving its institutions into waterfront districts.
After the March 1986 official opening, Grace Lodge registered with the Registry of Societies as a charity in 1988 and became an affiliate of Singapore Buddhist Welfare Services, according to its account.
These dates describe successive institutional stages. None should replace the others: 1985 marks establishment, 1986 the ceremony and 1988 the later registration milestone.

The same history records the move into Fu Hui Link in 2014, with capacity expanded to three hundred beds for female and male residents. It describes Fu Hui Link as an integrated community hub with services spanning children and older people.
That later capacity belongs to the expanded institution, not its original 1985 home. Keeping the phases separate makes old records easier to read and prevents the present organisation from being projected backwards unchanged.
Continue with the history of Singapore Buddhist Welfare Services and Punggol Road for the wider organisational background. Grace Lodge’s own dates supply the more specific nursing-home chapter within that story.
