If a train disruption affects a PSLE journey, inform the school and continue towards it. SEAB says an affected candidate who reaches school before the paper ends will receive the full examination duration. If arrival before the end is not possible, contact the school leader or teacher immediately.
SEAB does not require a station excuse letter or travel chit for this situation. Ask station staff about bridging transport and follow the current disruption updates instead of spending time queuing for documentary proof.
Punggol parents should save the school contact and agree on a simple travel backup before exam day. This guide is specifically for PSLE: do not apply the different GCE examination-centre instructions to a primary-school candidate.

Find the available alternative safely
Keep school informed if arrival changes
CHAPTER 1 OF 5
Tell the school where the child is
Use SEAB’s official train-disruption advice as the starting point. Give the school enough information to identify the child, affected paper and current location.
State whether the child is with an adult and whether a practical alternative route is available. Keep the call or message short so travel can continue.
If another caregiver is accompanying the child, decide which adult will update school. One clear contact reduces contradictory messages.
CHAPTER 2 OF 5
Find the available alternative safely
Ask the station’s passenger service centre about the available bridging services. Check official transport information as the disruption develops.
For Punggol families, LTA’s MRT/LRT status service is a useful official starting point. Station instructions remain important for the immediate location.
Choose a route the accompanying adult or student can navigate safely. Avoid sending a child on an unfamiliar shortcut simply because a map suggests a shorter distance.
CHAPTER 3 OF 5
Keep school informed if arrival changes
If the revised journey makes timely arrival doubtful, tell the teacher or school leader promptly. Do not wait until after the paper to make the first report.
On arrival, report to the school staff and explain that the journey was affected by the disruption. Follow their examination instructions.
Keep the transport problem separate from ordinary lateness. The specific arrangements described here concern candidates affected by a train disruption, not a general promise of extra time whenever someone arrives late.
CHAPTER 4 OF 5
Do not switch to another school on your own
SEAB publishes separate advice for GCE candidates and certain examination-centre situations. The PSLE direction is to contact and continue towards the child’s school.
A family may have seen a secondary-school message about going to a nearer examination centre. Do not assume that instruction applies to PSLE.
If the journey cannot be completed, ask the child’s school what happens next. A parent group cannot authorise an alternative examination venue.
CHAPTER 5 OF 5
Prepare a calm backup before the day
Save the school’s number and examination contact, and check who can accompany the child if the usual journey changes. Agree on a meeting point if an adult needs to take over.
Look at one realistic alternative route in advance. A backup can include a different public-transport route or an adult-arranged journey, but availability on the day is not guaranteed.
Keep the examination kit ready so a change of transport does not also become a search for missing materials. Our school materials guide helps with that preparation.
Information checked on 11 October 2026. Follow the current official and school instructions for your child’s individual arrangements.
