SPERS-Sec is the School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans seeking Secondary 1, 2 or 3 admission at the start of the next academic year. For families returning to Punggol, it is a merit-based secondary admissions option, not a compulsory test for every returning child.
SEAB administers the registration and tests. Check eligibility, application dates and school-selection instructions for the relevant exercise. The 2026 SPERS-Sec application window shown by MOE ran from 8 to 17 July 2026 and has already closed.
For preparation, SEAB points to Primary 6 topics for Secondary 1 admission, Secondary 1 topics for Secondary 2 admission, and Secondary 2 topics for Secondary 3 admission. English and Mathematics readiness should be checked against the intended entry level.

CHAPTER 1 OF 5
Confirm that this route fits
The official SPERS-Sec overview explains its purpose and the Secondary 1–3 entry levels. Do not confuse it with AEIS for international student admissions.
Tell MOE about the child’s nationality or residency status, overseas schooling and proposed return. If the family needs a school place at a different time, ask which route applies rather than assuming SPERS-Sec fits every move.
CHAPTER 2 OF 5
Use the correct exercise calendar
Check the MOE application page for the current exercise. Registration, test attendance and later school selection are separate milestones.
Record the deadline in Singapore time and keep the submitted application details. A future return date does not automatically extend an exercise’s registration period.
CHAPTER 3 OF 5
Prepare from the right starting level
The SEAB test details explain the preparation levels and assessment format. Its Mathematics test does not permit calculators and requires working for relevant written responses.
As a practical study step, compare a small sample of the child’s independent work with the recommended topics. Separate unfamiliar syllabus content from mistakes caused by rushing or unclear English instructions.
CHAPTER 4 OF 5
Read the entry proof carefully
SEAB states that the test venue and reporting time are on the entry proof. Applicants need their identification document and entry proof for identity checks and must be at their assigned desks at least 15 minutes before the test begins.
Plan the route to the actual venue, not a venue used in a previous year. Prepare documents and permitted materials in advance and follow the latest candidate instructions.
CHAPTER 5 OF 5
Follow the outcome and selection instructions
After testing, monitor the official channel for the next steps. Read the eligibility or school-selection information provided rather than treating a preferred school as an automatic outcome.
When a placement is confirmed, discuss the transition with the receiving school. Bring relevant education records and ask how to address the most important learning gaps without trying to repair every difference at once.
Information checked on 11 October 2026. Follow the current official instructions for your child’s eligibility, exercise year and school entry.
