If your child’s school meal subsidy card is not working, contact the school’s general office and check the FAS approval period, registered card and meal-subsidy setup. Explain whether the problem affects every purchase or just one transaction.
A card’s transport balance and its school meal subsidy are different arrangements. South View Primary’s published Smart Buddy instructions illustrate this distinction: subsidy spending is for canteen refreshments, and the school configures the selected device.
Punggol parents should use their own school’s process rather than buy a new watch or repeatedly top up a card before the cause is clear. This guide helps you describe the problem, handle a lost or changed card and arrange help for the child’s next meal.

Describe the failed transaction
CHAPTER 1 OF 5
Confirm the assistance and effective period
Check the approval notice and ask the school whether the child’s meal arrangement is active. An application acknowledgement is not an approval, and an approval may still require practical setup.
Tell staff if the child needs help obtaining a meal that day. Keep the discussion between adults so the child does not have to explain the family’s financial circumstances at a stall.
CHAPTER 2 OF 5
Check which card is registered
South View Primary’s Smart Buddy page says only one configured device accesses its meal subsidy. It explains that a newly chosen watch or card must be brought to the general office for configuration.
That is a school-specific example. Ask your Punggol school which card or device is registered and what it requires after a replacement; do not assume a new device automatically inherits the old setup.
CHAPTER 3 OF 5
Describe the failed transaction
Record the date, stall and error or message shown. State whether the child used the usual registered card and whether it had worked previously.
Ask the school how to check the meal allocation and transaction. Do not treat a successful bus journey or an ordinary paid purchase as proof that the meal subsidy has been activated.
CHAPTER 4 OF 5
Handle a lost or forgotten card
If the device is lost, tell school promptly and ask about its temporary meal arrangement and replacement configuration. Follow the provider’s separate instructions for protecting or replacing the lost device.
South View’s page publishes its own lost-card and forgotten-device procedures. Those details should not be promised at another school; confirm your child’s arrangement directly before the next school day.
CHAPTER 5 OF 5
Keep the follow-up simple
After school resolves the setup, check that the child knows which device to use and where to ask for help. Keep any confirmation and further instructions.
Our FAS application guide covers approval and tracking. A payment-device problem is a separate task from submitting another assistance application.
