PSLE access arrangement applications for school candidates must go through the child’s school. Punggol parents should approach the SEN Officer, access arrangements coordinator or form teacher to discuss the child’s needs, required documents and school submission schedule.
SEAB’s current guidance lists mid-February as the PSLE application deadline in the examination year and allows school applications one year ahead. Start the discussion early and confirm the school’s own document deadline. Extra time or another arrangement is subject to review, rather than automatically granted by a diagnosis.
Prepare relevant professional documentation and help the school understand how the child functions during learning and assessments. This guide explains the application conversation and follow-up, keeping everyday learning support separate from an approved national-examination arrangement.

CHAPTER 1 OF 5
Start with the school’s designated contact
Read SEAB’s access arrangements guidance, then ask the school who coordinates applications. Explain the examination year and the difficulty you want the team to consider.
Ask whether an application already exists, what information is missing and when the school needs it. Keep a note of the main contact so that messages do not become scattered across several staff members.
Use our learning-support meeting guide to prepare observations. A clear description of the assessment difficulty is more useful than asking for a particular allowance without context.
CHAPTER 2 OF 5
Check the documents for the requested arrangement
SEAB’s supporting-document FAQ describes professional diagnostic documentation and educational input from the school. Requirements vary with the arrangement requested; ask the coordinator which applies.
The school’s observation report describes difficulties under standard assessment conditions and the effectiveness of arrangements already used. Parents can share relevant examples, while school staff prepare the educational report.
Do not assume every existing report is sufficient or that every family needs the same additional assessment. Ask the school and relevant qualified professional whether the current documents address the requested arrangement before commissioning something new.
CHAPTER 3 OF 5
Plan the submission timeline
SEAB’s deadline FAQ lists mid-February for PSLE school candidates. The school may need information earlier to prepare and submit the application.
Work backwards from the school’s date: gather available reports, clarify missing information and allow time for the school’s observations. Keep acknowledgement of any documents you send.
If a need is identified later, contact the school promptly about the applicable rules. Do not assume that a late application is accepted or that another process automatically replaces a missed deadline.
CHAPTER 4 OF 5
Read the outcome precisely
When the school communicates the outcome, ask which papers and arrangements it covers. Confirm the practical instructions with the coordinator. An arrangement approved for one setting or component should not be assumed to apply to every paper.
SEAB describes arrangements such as extra time, modified print or examination venues, while retaining common marking criteria. The purpose is to address access to assessment; it does not change the learning objectives into a guarantee of a higher grade.
If the outcome is unclear, ask the school to explain it before changing practice conditions. Keep the official decision with the family’s examination records.
CHAPTER 5 OF 5
Prepare the child to use the approved arrangement
Ask how the school will help the child practise under the approved conditions. Explain the practical routine in plain language so the child knows what to expect and whom to ask if uncertain.
Discuss any certificate-annotation question using the official SEAB explanation. It states that details of the arrangements and medical conditions are not printed and that school posting does not take the annotation into account.
Continue working on the subject skills and everyday learning routines alongside examination preparation. If the child’s needs change or you are considering withdrawing an arrangement, consult the school before acting because formal rules and timelines apply.
Information checked on 11 October 2026. Follow current official and school instructions for your child’s individual arrangements.
