Fastback books have a seven-day loan period. NLB’s current official page says each Fastback item can now be renewed once for another seven days. Check your loan record and complete the renewal before relying on the extra time.
Fastback items cannot be reserved, and NLB says the collection’s items are not shown in its online catalogue. Visit the display to see what is available that day. A title mentioned as an example on the official page is not a promise that a copy will be on the shelf when you arrive.

Ask staff where the separately shelved display is if you cannot locate it. Check the sticker before borrowing so you understand the loan period attached to the copy.
The collection is intended to keep popular titles circulating more quickly. Availability changes as books are borrowed and returned, so it helps to arrive with several possible choices.
Browse the description and a few pages rather than choosing solely because a title is popular. A book that interests you and fits your available reading time is more likely to be enjoyed.
Use the actual due date to plan your reading
After borrowing, check the due date in your account. Record it in a calendar or reminder and decide when you can return the book. The printed collection label tells you the service type; your account tells you the date for your particular loan.
For a busy week, start with one book. Read a little on the first day so you can decide whether you want to continue. Borrowing several popular titles at once can create unnecessary pressure when their deadlines arrive together.
Keep the book somewhere you will remember it before your next outing. If different family members borrow items, track them under the correct account.
Can you renew a Fastback book?
Yes. NLB’s current Fastback page allows one renewal for a further seven days. Earlier descriptions of the service may still say the loan cannot be extended; the current official rules are the relevant reference.
Use your account’s renewal process and check that it succeeded. Confirm the new due date rather than assuming that intending to renew changes the loan.
If renewal does not work or you are unsure what the account shows, contact NLB while there is still time to arrange a return. Avoid waiting until the deadline simply because a general page mentions a renewal option.
What if you need a specific title?
Fastback does not accept reservations. Its changing selection works best for readers willing to choose from the available display.
If you need a particular title for a reading group, project or deadline, check the standard catalogue for another edition or copy and the borrowing options shown there. A standard-library copy and a Fastback copy can have different arrangements.
Use a flexible visit plan: browse Fastback first, then consider another suitable book if your preferred title is absent. The aim is to find something you want to read without making an unnecessary repeat journey.
Plan your Punggol Library trip
The Fastback display is inside the library, so visit when the main library is accessible. The 24-hour reservation lockers serve a different purpose and cannot turn a non-reservable Fastback item into a locker collection.
