A school name is not a learner diagnosis. Two children from the same school can need completely different English support, and a tutor should not assume curriculum gaps, pace or ability from the badge on the uniform.
This legacy Mee Toh/Waterway page now owns one job: diagnose the child, not the school label. It is not affiliated with Mee Toh School and does not claim a branch inside Waterway Point. Confirm current eduKate location, timing and availability directly.
Start With Individual Evidence
- recent marked paper;
- composition;
- reading fluency and comprehension;
- grammar/vocabulary patterns;
- oral response;
- prompt dependence;
- timing and completion.
Avoid School-Based Assumptions
| Weak assumption | Better question |
|---|---|
| “Students from this school are strong.” | What can this student do independently? |
| “This school gives hard papers.” | Which question demands are currently difficult for this child? |
| “They need advanced material.” | Which prerequisite is secure enough to extend? |
| “They need PSLE drilling.” | Which language process needs repair first? |
Same School, Different Intervention
One student may need vocabulary depth, another evidence-based comprehension, another writing architecture. A three-student class can share a passage while the tutor changes the next question and prompt level.
What Parents Can Ask
- What evidence is the tutor using?
- What is the earliest weak layer?
- Is the programme responding to my child or to assumptions about the school?
- How will the repair be tested independently?
School context can be useful background, but the teaching plan should be built from the learner in front of the tutor.
